Flashback to 2013: a ten-year-old Ella Powell, armed with a mini guitar and a purple notebook, began writing songs alone in her bedroom. What started as curiosity quickly became obsession, attempting to make sense of the world through melody and words. Releasing her first single at just eleven years old marked a defining moment, one that quietly but firmly cemented Ella’s desire to pursue a lifelong career in music.

Ella believes her deep connection to song writing was nurtured during her childhood, spent among the serene English countryside where family car journeys were soundtracked by Eva Cassidy, The Beatles, and Oasis.  Inspired by the music she heard, Ella saved every coin she could to buy CDs from the local music shop, quickly developing a fascination with melody and lyric. What set Ella apart wasn’t just how early she began, but her clarity from the start: music wasn’t a phase, but the foundation of the life she intended to build.

After years of honing her craft, she broke through in 2019, winning People’s Choice Award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Her debut single Paper Town soon earned her the title of National Songwriter of the Year, launching a steady run of releases that secured editorial placements on Spotify and Apple Music and saw her climb multiple charts. This momentum led to her debut EP, The End of the Beginning, now surpassing half a million streams across 80 countries. Most recently, her single Passerby debuted as the third most downloaded song across all genres in Australia on release day.

Powell has captivated audiences across Australia from the iconic Deni Ute Muster (alongside Kip Moore and Tyler Hubbard) to Sunset Sounds (sharing stages with Thirsty Merc and Kingswood). She has also served as official pre-entertainment for Taylor Swift and Luke Combs at their Sydney Accor Stadium shows, cementing her reputation as a commanding live performer. In 2025, Ella returned to Tamworth as a Top 10 Toyota Star Maker finalist; joining an alumni legacy that includes Keith Urban, Kaylee Bell and Lee Kernaghan.
